This is a 1939 Cadillac LaSalle radiator that was shipped to us from an out of state customer. The customer initially emailed us for a price to do a complete overhaul and restoration on the radiator. He found us by searching on the internet for antique radiator restoration and repair. The Cadillac LaSalle has a flathead V8 engine that this radiator needs to keep cool. The radiator utilizes a thermostat that is mounted on the grill side of the top radiator tank. This thermostat is what operates the opening and closing of the grill shutters. These older Cadillac radiators are made with crimped headers so they are much more time consuming and challenging to work on than other radiators simply because they are much more difficult to take apart or remove the top and bottom tanks from the core. Once we get the radiator all disassembled we will boil out the radiator core in our ultrasonic cleaning tank before rodding out the tubes with a rod to make sure they are all clear. The top and bottom brass radiator tanks will undergo a thorough cleaning and blasting before all the cast iron hose connections are removed for cleaning and tinning as well. Once all the parts are clean and tinned up we will solder everything back together and then pressure test the radiator to make sure there are no leaks. Once we get a good pressure test on it the radiator will get a final clean and flush before getting a fresh coat of black paint. Antique engine and radiator repair, rebuilding, and restoration are the types of projects we really enjoy.
