These are the trophies we built for Chris Tocco at RC Tracks of Las Vegas for the 2016 IFMAR 1/8 8th scale nitro off road world championship race held from September 30th, 2016 to October 8th, 2016. All of us RC enthusiasts have been anticipating the Worlds race. Awhile back Kyle Johnson who drives for Kyosho made a post on Facebook about tracks not supplying good trophies anymore. So we contacted Chris Tocco and told him we want to build and fabricate some bad ass trophies for the Worlds and show everyone in the RC community that true & real trophies are possible. The trophies are all hand made out of aluminum. The round tapered / angled bases started as a flat sheet of aluminum that we cut to shape, rolled and formed into a round circle, and then welded the seams together. The bases are aluminum sheeting that we cut on our circle shear. Chris Tocco had Hartlauer Signs laser cut the aluminum Las Vegas sign themed pieces, the TQ, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd pieces as well as the IFMAR worlds event labels we attached to the trophies. We polished the Las Vegas sign pieces before attaching them to the base of the trophies. We then picked out some cool looking connecting rods and pistons which we also completely polished to a shiny finish. We then machined the connecting rods and pistons to fit each other and then also machined them so they would stand up straight on the base plates. Except the 1st place champions trophy, we used an odd shaped connecting rod that is curved or offset so that it goes out at an angle and positions the piston over the top of the Las Vegas sign piece. We did this because we put an LED light up inside the piston so it would shine down on the base of the trophy. We also outlined the outside diameter of the base with red & blue LED’s to dress it out. Chris Tocco also wanted to incorporate a picture of the Las Vegas Strip and the United States US American Flag so we had vinyl stickers made with a panoramic view of the Las Vegas Strip and had a ghosted American Flag laid over the strip. We placed these vinyl stickers on the bases of the trophies before bolting down the Las Vegas sign, connecting rods, and place numbers. We finished the trophies up with a rubber edge border trim on the bottom of the bases as well as the perimeter of the base plates. Other than the bases, everything is bolted together with stainless steel button head allen screws so that the trophies can be completely disassembled for easier shipping in case the winners happen to be from far away or another country and need to have them shipped home.
