This is a pair of aluminum charge air coolers CAC or air to air coolers or aftercoolers off of a Caterpillar 854K wheel dozer. We ended up re-coring both coolers with new cores which involves cutting the tanks off of the original cores. We then mount the aluminum inlet and outlet air cooler tanks in our mill so we can machine the tanks straight and flat which removes all of the old aluminum welding material. We then media blast the tanks inside and out. We then aluminum tig weld the tanks to the new aluminum air cooler core. The original cores were leaking badly near the header plates due to cracks in the tubes. Once we get the air coolers all welded up we then submerge them in our test tank to pressure test them and insure they have zero leaks.
