Here's a 3306 Caterpillar crankshaft that came in for machine work. We cleaned it up in our hot tank and then checked it to make sure it was at the proper hardness before wet magging it in our wet magnaflux for cracks. Not all leaks in an engine can be detected by magnafluxing for cracks. In these pics it can be seen that the heads are leaking above the valve seats around the valve guides. This is why we always pressure test cylinder heads even if we don't find any visual cracks during magnafluxing. New valve guides [...]

This is a couple of John Deere industrial cylinder heads we rebuilt. The cylinder heads are four cylinder diesels and they both ended up needing a valve job and surface along with some new valve giudes and some new valves as well.
