Here’s some pics of a Dart Big M cylinder block for a big block Chevy dragster engine we’re freshening up. This engine is a 637 cubic inch naturally aspirated engine though it is also setup with a nitrous system. The engine makes right at 1500 horsepower without the nitrous. When we disassembled the engine the main bearings didn’t look that great so we suspected the housing bore might be a little out of whack and that it was. We ended up having to cut the main caps about .005-.009 just to get their mating surfaces flat and square. Now that the housing bore is trued up, perfectly round, and on size, we should have a free and smooth spinning crankshaft. Drag racing puts a good amount of stress on the bottom end of an engine, especially at the top end of the track when the engine is at its highest RPM. Therefore, it is imperative that the housing bore is true and round. The engine is ran primarily at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway LVMS as well as tracks in Southern California, Arizona, and Utah. The engine is fitted with a Callies lightweight billet crankshaft, Oliver connecting rods, CP Carillo forged pistons, ARP Fasteners & Hardware throughout, and Pontiac Big Chief aluminum cylinder heads.
