Here’s some pics of a 5.9 Cummins diesel engine block out of a Dodge Ram truck. The engine block is mounted in our Sunnen CK10 cylinder honing machine. On top of the block is a two inch thick torque plate that is torqued to the deck of the block with a set of ARP cylinder head studs. Between the block & the torque plate is a Fel-Pro MLS (multi layer steel) head gasket. The torque plate & head gasket set the cylinders in position as if the cylinder head were torqued to the block. This provides the most accurate cylinder bore finish for the honing process to the finished bore size for the best piston-to-cylinder wall clearances.
