Here’s some before and after pics of an aluminum bar-and-plate cooler for an industrial air compressor. The cooler was leaking due to a large crack. When the cooler came in the cracked area was covered with epoxy in an effort to seal the leak. The epoxy separated due to the difference in thermal expansion of the aluminum cooler & the epoxy. We thermal cleaned the cooler to remove all the epoxy so we could get the cracked area down to raw aluminum & properly prepped for tig welding. After prepping & welding the crack we pressure tested the cooler to make sure it was free of any leaks. A final internal flushing & rinse got it ready for another round of service.
