Here’s some before & after pics of a cast iron diesel exhaust manifold that came in for surfacing. The flanges were not sitting at the same plane to each other which was causing excessive exhaust leaks between the exhaust manifold & the cylinder head. Surfacing the exhaust flanges flat from one end to the other will allow the manifold to be tightened down & provide even clamping against the exhaust gaskets from end-to-end.
