Here’s some pics of a Caterpillar 793C rear axle a-frame support during the various stages of the repair process. The large bore at the tip of the a-frame, or wishbone, is the hitch pin bore. When we check these for cracks we often times find cracks in the bore as well as the bolt holes that surround the bore. When cracks are present at these areas we completely cut the end out & away from the legs. This end is called the yoke. Once the cracked yoke is cut out from the legs, or supports, we prep them for the placement of a new yoke. Once the yoke is set in place in our jig it requires several passes of welding to get the new yoke completely welded to the legs to complete the A-Frame assembly & ready to be put back into service.
