Here’s some pics of an industrial size two step flywheel we surfaced. We didn’t get any pics of it beforehand but someone tried machining it on a lathe which left not only an extremely rough finish but also some deep grooves which we had to grind out. The flywheel bolts to the back of the crankshaft of a Big Cam Cummins diesel engine which powers a Freightliner semi truck. We do all of our flywheel surfacing on our Van-Norman flywheel grinder which provides a flat & smooth finish for the disc of a clutch to engage with without excessive or premature wear. We also utilize the specs from our AERA (engine builders association) flywheel specs catalog to make sure we machine both the lower & upper surfaces to the proper distance from each other.
