Here are some pics of a 2.3 liter SOHC (single overhead cam) Ford Ranger engine that came in for machine work. We began with thermal cleaning & shotblasting the block so we could get a good magnaflux inspection for cracks. We then align honed the housing bore so the main bearings set true & straight with the proper crush once the main caps are torqued in place. We then bored the cylinders for new oversize pistons & then surfaced the deck flat & square. The final operation to the block was to finish hone the cylinders to give the new pistons the proper piston-to-wall/cylinder clearance. We then polished & chamfered the rod & main journals on the crankshaft. The connecting rods were blasted before installing a set of ARP rod bolts. We then reconditioned the big end of the rods to give the rod bearings the proper crush once the caps are torqued to the rods. After all the machine work was completed our customer requested us to assemble the shortblock.
