Here are some pics of a CEM (clean emissions module) we cleaned. This is off of a Caterpillar 789 haul truck. The DPF (diesel particulate filter) gets plugged with soot which results in reduced engine power. Also part of the system is the SCR (selective catalyst reduction). Cleaning the SCR Catalyst, or DPF filter, of all the soot & carbon build-up restores the engine power back to where it needs to be.
