Here are some pics of a DPF (diesel particulate filter) off of a Komatsu HM400 that we had in here for cleaning. The SCR (selective catalyst reduction) gets plugged up with soot on today’s diesel engines with a CEM (clean emissions module) which causes the engine to run with reduced power. The system can only regen with DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) so many times before it is necessary to remove the filter for extreme internal cleaning of the filter catalyst. In order to bring the engine power output back up to maximum performance the DPF needs to be cleaned internally for maximum flow of the exhaust through the emissions filter.
