Here are some pics of a pivot eye, or nosecone, off of a Komatsu 830E haul truck. We get these pivot eyes in with the bores worn & out-of-round. Komatsu doesn’t allow any welding to this part but they do offer an oversize bearing carrier. We set these up on our Rottler CNC boring machine & probe several areas of the bore. This allows us to properly & accurately center the boring head in the bore so we can machine it out perfectly round as well as to the spec size for the oversize bearing carrier. By doing this we have been able to salvage more of these nosecones than we have had to discard. If the bore is worn too bad they won’t clean-up within the spec bore size for the oversize bearing carrier but with the CNC probing setup we have had an 85% success rate.
